Large sweetgum in spring, with tender, recently sprouted leaves and the pyramidal crown typical of the species.

Liquidambar styraciflua:
Deciduous tree native to eastern North America and the montane regions of Mexico and Central America, recognisable by its five-pointed, star-shaped leaves and hard, spiked fruits. Famed for intense red autumn colour; widely planted in streets, parks and gardens across temperate regions. Its name, from "liquid amber", refers to the fragrant gum the species produces.
