A broad, multi-stemmed lime tree in early spring, its tender new leaves opening into an airy, light-filled crown. A single figure sits on the grass beneath it, at correct scale. Photographed in western Germany.

Tilia platyphyllos:
Native to central and southern Europe, reaching into southwestern Asia. Less common in the far north than the small-leaved lime, it is widely planted across Europe — especially in Germany, France, and Central Europe — as a street and park tree, growing in deep, fertile soils.
