Very large and old ash tree in early spring, with fine, delicate, newly sprouted leaves, sparse foliage, and a visually permeable canopy. Photographed in the fields surrounding Berlin.

Fraxinus excelsior:
Native to Europe, from northern Spain to Russia, and from southern Scandinavia to northern Greece. Also native to southwestern Asia. Common in woods, hedgerows, parks, and streets, preferring moist, lime-rich soils.
