Very large lime tree in early spring, its recently sprouted tender leaves forming an open, permeable canopy of fresh green. Photographed in the fields around Berlin.

Tilia platyphyllos:
Native to central and southern Europe, reaching into southwestern Asia. Less common in the far north than the small-leaved lime, it is widely planted across Europe — especially in Germany, France, and Central Europe — as a street and park tree, growing in deep, fertile soils.
